Character Modelling: Female 01; Head Blocking

Character Design Development: Female

Main Design

Consistent feedback from both teammates and our lecturer Alan guided the design process leading up to the character's orthographic projections. The projections themselves have been approved, while thumbnail 28 required the arm lengths to be evened out.

Thumbnail Development

Once we had established Paris as the location our animation would be set, we began researching various aspects related to Paris / France e.g. French fashion. It was suggested that we take design inspiration from French salt and pepper grinders to guide character design.

The biggest change in design style began at thumbnail 18, after Alan suggested having the style of both characters be influenced by 1960's French chic illustrations. This was due to the illustrative style of our kitchen having been established; as a result the character designs had to fit their environment.

The Kitchen Set Update No. 2

We've added a balcony onto the side of our set, and worked with Camera to find the optimum angle suitable for catching all the action.

Here we've also added in a view of Paris to show the kind of view we'd be going for

You can see here, we've added in a person for scale and a table for the balcony

We also discussed the cabinet doors, despite the fact that the doors were already modelled, it was unanimously decided that the cabinet doors should be faked to save time and to fit the design better.

As always, feedback is always welcome!

Storyboard Animatic

Currently with no sound, the animatic is here to show rough timings of things that go on within our set. The lady is currently not animated, but she is meant to sit at the table, smoking a fag and looking out at the view of Paris, when the cooking pot flies out to the table in front of her, she is stunned by the amazing taste and the man cheers to celebrate the fact that his disaster in the kitchen made an exquisite meal!
